So about last night... WWE RAW (22/10/2018)

Welcome to a new segment called, “So about last night…” where I go through RAW and SmackDown Live and talk about some of segments on the show and give my opinion.
Today, it is an emotional Monday Night RAW from Providence, Rhode Island.
It is the go-home RAW for the Women’s division as this Sunday is WWE Evolution. While the RAW superstars are getting ready for their historic PPV this weekend, we also got to build up WWE Crown Jewel next Friday and yet we still don’t know what the heck is happening with that PPV as of yet.
Last night saw WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns relinquish the championship after he announced that he has Leukaemia – Roman stated during his speech that while he has got this, he cannot continue being a fighting champion but he would fight Leukaemia. He left the ring leaving behind the Universal Title. At the top of the ramp, his Shield brothers Seth Rollins & Dean Ambrose came out to hug him and ended with a shield salute.
It is the not the last time we see Rollins and Ambrose tonight as they face Drew McIntyre & Dolph Ziggler for the RAW Tag Team Championship.
To follow up this segment, it was Bobby Lashley (with Lio Rush) vs Finn Bálor. Nothing to report here other than Bálor winning clean.
In the hype match for WWE Evolution, Sasha Banks takes on Ruby Riott and this match didn’t add much to the ‘storyline’ that is being portrayed here. Riott defeats Banks.
D-Generation X is in the ring hyping up their match against The Brothers of Destruction at WWE Crown Jewel and they talk about how this whole match was all about nostalgia and fear and what the Bros of Destruction would do to DX at the PPV.
The Undertaker’s gong being sounded and then a video package being played that shows Taker and Kane in a graveyard with two headstones with Shawn’s and Hunter’s names on it and how this would going to be their ‘Last Match Ever’
Then we move onto to a predictable change for the WWE Crown Jewel card.
Paul Heyman comes out and he announces that the Triple Threat between Roman Reigns, Braun Strowman and Brock Lesnar will not just be a singles match for the Universal Championship. Braun Strowman came out to say that Lesnar wasn’t on his level and that he would win the title and that Roman Reigns would be the first person in line for a title shot when he returns from injury.
Afterwards, Drew McIntyre who attacked Strowman last week, came out and attacked him again.
Then there was a match between Elias and Apollo Crews. Elias defeats Crews and after the break, Elias set himself up again for another performance, but this time at the top of the ramp. RAW’s acting General Manager Baron Corbin stopped the performance, before being hit in the back with Elias’ guitar.
In a pretty much nothing segment, Ronda Rousey and Nikki Bella sign their contract for their RAW Women’s Championship match at WWE Evolution, this Sunday. With nothing more than a slap being issued from Bella, this segment was over before it even began. NEXT.
In another hype match for the Battle Royale match at WWE Evolution, we were given a short Fatal 4-way match between Nia Jax, Ember Moon, Tamina and Dana Brooke. This match ended when Moon delivered an Eclipse to Tamina.
And in the main event of Monday Night RAW, we have the RAW Tag Team Championship match between Seth Rollins & Dean Ambrose vs Drew McIntyre & Dolph Ziggler. McIntyre goes for the Claymore to Rollins before Ambrose stopping him. Braun Strowman’s theme hits and guns for McIntyre and attacks him out of the arena. Meanwhile, Seth Rollins hits Ziggler with the Stomp and picks up the victory.
Dean Ambrose & Seth Rollins is the new RAW Tag Team Champions.
Rollins is now a double champion, holding both the Intercontinental Championship as well as the Tag Team Championship!
After the match, Dean Ambrose turns on Seth Rollins and attacks him. I believe it is because he has enough being called a ‘Lunatic’ even though he has been given the nick name for the last 6 years!
Overall, it was an emotional show with Roman relinquishing his title but was let down by the very piss-poor hype for WWE Evolution. Some storylines for the WWE Crown Jewel matches were progressed but very slowly even though there is about a week’s worth of shows left (It is next Friday 2nd November)
I just hope that the matches on Sunday for WWE Evolution live up to the hype. Let’s hope the last few months have not been wasted.
